Our original estimator (Model 1) extrapolates from the last official anchor plus a Brent-sensitivity curve. It’s accurate when the anchor is fresh — less so for subsidy regimes, post-devaluation shocks, or countries where no official source has published in months.
Model 2 fuses M1 with every other signal we have — official data, news extractions, and verified reports from people at the pump — using Bayesian inverse-variance weighting. When enough fresh evidence exists, M1’s trajectory bows to the crowd. When it doesn’t, M2 falls back to M1 exactly, so nothing is ever lost.
Country pages now show a M1 / M2 toggle wherever the two estimators disagree by more than 5%, plus a “Report a price” button so you can add a data point from your last fill-up.
